Experiences on Portugal's Atlantic coast
For over twenty years we have lived on this coastline. These are the experiences we send our guests to first, each one within reach of a handpicked Portugal Portfolio home.

Fado night in Alfama
Not performed but lived: guitar, candlelight and saudade spilling into the stairways of Lisbon's oldest neighborhood.

Ride Tram 28 through Graca and Alfama
The 1930s tram rattles past miradouros, tiled facades and the cathedral. Go early, sit by the window, get off where it feels right.

Tuk-tuk the seven hills
Street art, viewpoints and hidden squares without the climb. A local driver, an open side and two hours that fly by.

Petiscos, wine and a warm pastel de nata
Graze the Portuguese way: small plates, Douro wine and a pastel de nata still warm from the oven at Belem.

Hunt azulejos in the old quarters
Every street is a gallery: five centuries of hand-painted tile, best discovered slowly with a camera in hand.

Cross the Tagus to Cristo Rei
Ferry to the south bank for the best view of Lisbon there is, then seafood by the water in Cacilhas.
Homes on Margem Sul
A Casino Royale evening
Cocktails and a flutter at Casino Estoril, the wartime nest of spies where Ian Fleming found the seed of James Bond.

Tennis and padel by the sea
Morning sets on the courts of the Riviera, then a slow lunch on the Paredao promenade between Estoril and Cascais.

Sail out of the marina
Portugal's sailing capital. Crew a regatta, charter a sunset cruise, or just watch white sails cut the horizon from the bay.

Lose the map in the old town
Cobbled lanes, fishermen's chapels, the Paula Rego museum and Boca do Inferno at golden hour. Our home turf, where it all started.
Where to stay in Cascais
Beach-hop the bay
Conceicao, Duquesa, Rainha: three sheltered beaches minutes apart, made for slow mornings and long swims.
Best beaches guide
Learn to surf at Guincho
Summer trade winds make this one of Europe's great surf and kitesurf arenas. Lessons run year round, boards included.

Roam the dunes of the natural park
Wind-cut dunes backed by the Sintra hills. Finish with a long seafood lunch above the beach while the kitesurfers fly.

Pena Palace and the Initiation Well
Mist, towers and masonic ritual: Pena above the trees, then the 27 meter spiral descent of Quinta da Regaleira.

Hike the palace-to-coast trails
Laurel forest, ruined walls and Atlantic views: the quiet side of Sintra most day-trippers never see.

Stand at the edge of Europe
Cliffs drop 140 meters where the land ends and the sea begins. Come for the light an hour before sunset.

Paddle into the Benagil cave
Enter the cathedral dome by licensed boat or guided kayak, early, before the light show fills with day-trippers.
How to visit Benagil
Walk the Seven Hanging Valleys
Golden cliffs, sea arches and lighthouse views on the Algarve's most beautiful trail, with a swim at Praia da Marinha.
Our Algarve homes
Family days on Blue Flag beaches
Sheltered, warm and safe: Praia da Falesia sands, dolphin trips out of Lagos and the lagoon islands of Ria Formosa.

Cable car up, wicker toboggan down
Glide over Funchal's rooftops to Monte, then ride the famous wicker sledges back down the hill, steered by carreiros in straw hats.
Madeira guide
Levadas, ocean pools and whales
Sunrise above the clouds at Pico do Arieiro, levada walks to 25 Fontes and volcanic pools at Porto Moniz. Whales all year round.

Where the Atlantic begins
Six worlds on one continuous coastline, less than an hour apart. This is the three day journey we recommend to every guest, west from Lisbon until the road runs out.
Lisbon
Tram 28, warm pasteis de Belem and Fado in Alfama as sailboats drift through gold under the bridge.
Estoril
Palm-lined avenues, the casino that inspired Casino Royale and the circuit of Senna's first win.
Cascais
Regattas out of the marina, coffee by the bay and the crashing chasm of Boca do Inferno.
Guincho
Surf and kitesurf against the scale of ocean and sky, backed by the dunes of the natural park.
Sintra
Pena's towers above the mist, Regaleira's Initiation Well and gardens of three thousand species.
Cabo da Roca
The westernmost point of mainland Europe, where Camoes wrote that the land ends and the sea begins.
