Externally
Within 100m of the front door you will find dozens of restaurants, clubs and trendy shops. The area is closed off to traffic, except for residents and emergency vehicles.
The Bairro Alto comes alive as the sun sets in Lisbon. The many wonderful, small and intimate restaurants begin to open around 8:00 p.m. Many of the restaurants can only seat 10 or 12 couples, and some, even less. The food is spectacular.
There are many Fado clubs there that are very commercial. Here in the Bairro Alto you will be able to find some that are frequented by locals who get up and take turns at the microphone. Try Tasco do Chico for a real Lisbon experience.
Inside the apartment you will find our list of recommended restaurants, local coffee shops and places to meet locals. And of course all our top tips for enjoying Lisbon.
Coast / Beach
Within just a few train stops from the main station (Cais do Sodre) you will find all the beaches you could want. The further along you travel, the softer and whiter the sand. Carcavelos is a great surf beach and Cascais has much to offer both families and and singles alike.
Further along the coast going westward, (and still only a very easy 30 minutes from Lisbon) you have the Guincho coast line with its world class rocky coves and world championship sandy beaches.
Golf
Several golf courses can be reached by car within 20 minutes, please see our personalised visits page for Golf Passport Details & Accommodation Packages.
Travel
The world heritage site of Sintra can be easily reached by train from the local train station.
Cascais is a skip and a hop away - catch the train from Cais do Sodre station just minutes walk from the apartment. Here you can bask on the beaches or simply enjoy a meal around the fish market or on the ocean front.

Bica da Agau is a great apartment for any stay in Lisbon. We had a long weekend in March 2011 and can highly recommend it. The location is superb - literally next to the Elevador de Bica, probably the most atmospheric funicular in the city. It's also only a few minutes from the nightlife of the Barrio Alto, but far enough that noise is not a problem. There's a nice little bar/restaurant downstairs and Bar Bica round the corner is a great place to enjoy a cold beer on the outdoor tables. For anyone getting a taxi from the airport, I would request to be dropped off at the top of Elevador de Bica, then walk down the hill - anything else seems to confuse the taxi drivers...!
As for the apartment itself - very stylish, views over the water, TV/DVD, fully fitted kitchen, good bathroom. Only watch out is if you're sleeping in the upstairs mezzanine, don't get up too quickly as you'll bang your head.
